Good day, I was out during Chinese New Year to Penang for slightly less than a week. With the day-by-day entries for Penang trips now condensed into time-by-time entries.
Airtrek photos will be separated into a child post that is linked here: Trek @ Teluk Bahang Dam
A drive down for reunion dinner and I happened to come across this dilapidated Toyota Corolla KE30, if I am not to be mistaken. I don't suspect it is salvagable given the exterior rot.
Okay, as a follow-up and after much consideration on my end to fulfill what I had decided to nose around for in a previous car listing writeup, I've opted to take the time off one day to drive down to look at a potential second motor here.

A plenty nice Jaguar XJ. |
After waiting for a bit and following the seller, here she is:
What is she? She is a Honda Civic EG generation. Unlike most EG's in Malaysia where a standard and common spec one would be swapped in with a different motor and modified with tasty spec sheets, this is quite the opposite of those hair-raising examples.
This is a rare example of a real SiR. Most EG's with B series engines that you see tend to be SR4 / EH examples that were local assembly. These cars originall started out with more basic interiors and D series engines, but many would be converted over to match what a EG9 would be, or beyond.
But this is the real deal. Looking at it, she's very rough around the edges, with two rust spots front and back and misaligned and or damaged bodywork on the left-hand side which would be indicative of accident history. I could not get the owner's word on whether it had such history. Nevertheless, I thought it seemed good enough on the test drive, and struck a deal with the owner to come do all the paperwork and handover in the next few days.
On the way back not far from where the EG9 was and it just had to be another. Perhaps again, the stars have aligned? Plus, come to think of it, the very first Inno64 diecast model and one of the very first "collectors" diecasts I bought was a black EG9. It seems a very coincidental thing.
Also, during the joruney to see the car, one moment of no-issue driving turned into a very loud flapping noise around the front left wheel. The video attached is what it sounded like. It was only after the trip did I find out what happened; the inner wheelwell had dislodged itself from the bumper, and was rubbing against the wheel for the better part of 150+ kilometers. Its safe to say that the part is toast.
Additionally, the rear lip is coming off. This will hold off any plans we have for sale of the car to get these and some other things fixed to make it as good as it can be mechanically and cosmetically.
Next day now for handover and others. And like that, is another motor under my care, and one you'll see semi-often next time on CharadeSG.
There will be another child post to this linked here, where you can read more on my views of the car plus more photos:
Its a very short entry for this trip, since most of it was personal work and also looking around the cars. You'll see more content about the cars in the parent posts. For now, this is as much as I am able to update, but the posts about Penang afterwards will probably be more hands-on, and more about my journey with them. The EG9 will be a very long project, and I hope I'll be able to maintain it well enough as the years go by.
