About this website

This blog is dedicated to our sharings about general car enthusiast life in Singapore and others, a bit of a personal memorial of our youth and what we've done, seen, experienced, enjoyed. Sadly due to how things are run here, not all cars can live a full life as they would be intended. As such, we will try to document whatever we can and archive photos of what will one day become forgottens of the past. Life is a finite experience.

Penang: Cat Cafe

As a continuation from the June Penang article..

Cats, an abundance of cats.

Having been dragged along by family, I ended up at this cat cafe in Penang.

This cafe's special residents are most commonly comprised of Munchkin and Maine Coon breeds, and as a first-time visitor to a cat cafe, the cats are pretty friendly.

In comparison to the neighbourhood cats I'm used to, they're a lot more reserved - a friend tells me this is normal. They don't really do anything except exist, to put into "young" terminology.

One cares if you help it throw its favorite spring around the cafe.

They sometimes may / if prompted join you for your meal via resting on your table.

The cats have names - found on the back of the menu (they aren't meal items) which will describe their names and breed, but I've so far not remembered any of them.

Some cats are active, some not.

Around when I was present at 2pm, about half or more of the cats who call the cafe home were peacefully sleeping. That peace would not last, courtesy of screaming children trying to grab said cats. The kid got kicked by his mother.

Otherwise apart from the odd rowdy customer, the play is very relaxing to be in. You have cats walking around (who unfortunately likely will not curl up next to or on you), and some 2000s music hits playing in the background at a well-judged volume. Its air-conditioned too for your information - a lifesaver in regards to the weather Asia has these days.

The cafe will have you take off your shoes before entering. The shoes will be kept inside the cafe, so no worries about potential theft from someone outside.

The seating is generally low - one section will have you sitting practically on the floor, the others will be a combination of more conventional chairs and lounge-like chairs.

The food is actually quite good. I had this spaghetti (don't recall the name) and rather enjoyed it. Do pardon the photos being of less quality (I wasn't think I'd be creating a separate column about the place then). Meal prices are on the expensive side where Penang is concerned - street vendors and conventional coffee shops will charge cheaper than these, no doubt. But they still aren't extremely expensive, even from a Singaporean perspective.

Overall, I think we stayed there for around two hours. Photographing the cats was fun, as is just watching them do their necessary work (of doing nothing), I'd return again.

The place is called  Munchkin & The Gang Cat Cafe , According to Google Maps, they should open from 11am to 8pm on a daily basis (excluding national holidays, etc).

Overall, its very cozy, the food and cost is decent, and the cats are there for moral support - or more accurately - to sleep.
