About this website

This blog is dedicated to our sharings about general car enthusiast life in Singapore and others, a bit of a personal memorial of our youth and what we've done, seen, experienced, enjoyed. Sadly due to how things are run here, not all cars can live a full life as they would be intended. As such, we will try to document whatever we can and archive photos of what will one day become forgottens of the past. Life is a finite experience.

  • If you're looking for any specific content (i.e specific cars, etc), please use the search function and use your PC's Ctrl + F Search function. Unfortunately due to Blogger's shortcomings, the website's search function is not intuitive, so the Ctrl + F function helps alot. Happy reading!

SG Archives: Lotus Elan SE (Netherlands export)

A time capsule of an ex-Singaporean Lotus Elan found in the Netherlands.

As an interesting footnote of the year, photos of a long-exported Lotus Elan SE popped up for sale not in Singapore, but completely far off in the Netherlands.

As the listing mentions, the Elan was exported over to the Netherlands as a home council in 2004 and garage'd for the rest of its life, until this year in 2025 where it was removed - presumably to prep for sale. It has never been re-registered (on a Dutch plate) and is now being offered for anyone who may want to have it. The photos show that the original IU is also still present on the vehicle.

Maintainence wise is mentioned to have replaced all fluids, the gas pump, fuel injectors and the battery, with the soft-top needing to be replaced.

Given the plate (SBN-prefix), we estimate that as it is a June 1990 registration, it is likely a 1990 model (unsure about 1989 as flip-up lights cannot be confirmed in the photos) that may have been renewed five years after its initial ten year COE, exported a year early before its intended deregistration.

This unit was well-modified, sticking to the Calypso Red colorway with aftermarket door inserts, shift boot, handbrake boot and reupholstered seats to match the red hue. The engine bay hints at a K&N universal filter with a shroud. The turbo/intake piping are also aftermarket, and no mentions on exhaust system, which also looks to be aftermarket.

You may find more information about this ex-Singaporean Lotus Elan SE via this marketplace listing.
