About this website

This blog is dedicated to our sharings about general car enthusiast life in Singapore and others, a bit of a personal memorial of our youth and what we've done, seen, experienced, enjoyed. Sadly due to how things are run here, not all cars can live a full life as they would be intended. As such, we will try to document whatever we can and archive photos of what will one day become forgottens of the past. Life is a finite experience.

Elan front suspension part purchase

Converted to SGD is 956.91. SJSportsCars actually has a web diagram whereby you can search for the area you're looking for parts and you can click on a part number to find the part that matches and is for sale. So happily I needn't go to another website and purchase but it does mean I need to spend more on a second shipment 😓

Converted back is 290.47 SGD.

Unrelated to everything so far, a pretty big hornbill outside sitting at my balcony.

Elanmi: 7/11 break

Opted for a leisure drive over to ECP to unwind some thoughts for a bit. Naturally because the 7/11 in East Coast Park wasn't publicly listed oon Waze, I was pretty lost trying to find my way there. Its okay though, I did eventually manage to find my way.

Elanmi: Pop-up surprise

Went and attended a reunion. Happens to be on the day I show up, the Toyota Supra MK3 that I did a previous writeup about happened to be nearby.

I had someone from the adjacent block shouting at me. It likely was directed at me seeing I heard something "car", but otherwise don't know what the subject matter was. Above were two people with one with their phone out, I'm not sure what was the occasion.

Returned later to check in case for any potential vandalism because I genuinely didn't know what to expect with that abovementioned encounter, but I found a cat instead.

Nothing happened so it is what it is. I did have to wipe some bird toppings off after returning, didn't get lucky especially as I was parking directly under a tree.

Shopping list wise:

I need to recheck exactly what I need to get, however so far I know fully well that these need to be replaced, under recommendation from my workshop.

This applies for only one side, so I'll have to double the total amount.

Additionally, I likely will need to address engine mounts as well, as it knocks the whole car, especially when I let off the throttle suddenly in lower gears. Do correct me if this is normal, but it is both feeling and sounding like a knock, which is definitely not very good.

Last thing, a GPS-based speed reader. Rewiring of the Elan can and will likely cost a lot in labor and etc, so rather than spending that, I think for now, picking a more aftermarket route via a speed reader will be a better route. My speedometer currently reads 5-10km/h above the actual speed depending on how fast I already am going, which is solved via apps like Waze or Maps, but me needing to peer to the left and check speed often isn't necessarily safe or as convenient if my speedometer was functioning correctly.

Elanmi: Shining under the sunlight

Oh, nothing here. I would like to mention (and have a place to deposit) just how nice this car looks directly under the sun. It almost always rests under a roof and rarely have I parked it in the open. It looks pleasant.

Elanmi: Return from workshop

I've now been able to retrieve the Lotus Elan after two repairs.

I never fully addressed this issue whereby when you went to shut the glovebox or even hit the dash on the passenger side by accident, the engine would immediately stop running. I haven't been stranded once from this until this time where it almost happened, luckily in a neighbourhood than in the middle of the road.

So we knew where the issue was. The first video was a friend alighting and hitting the dashboard by accident, and the second being an unsecured bag slipping and hitting the same place.

Went over to my workshop and demonstrated. Engine shut itself first time. Turns out one of the connectors that connected with the ECU was loose + broken off. It has since been mended.

Part of the repairs from a second visit was repairing the power steering pipe, which had begun to leak. I believe the play in the steering seems to no longer be present now, so at the very least I won't need to order new tie rods. Yet.
