These restricted use relics could outlive their civilian counterparts while living in the airport.
For a start, the normal non-Ralliart Mitsubishi Colt is a hugely reduced breed, with only two or three that I can recall still being driven. So these are already long extinct, where the Colt Ralliart may soon follow when their COE renewals are due. So this airport unit is already a nostalgic spot for some. My father owned one of them back in the day.
As for the Corolla Axio, there are some still on the road, but numbers are inevitably declining. Some private driving instructors were using these models as far back as two years ago, but those I never really see around anymore.
Will these last another ten years? I remember a post of a 2000s era Subaru Forester and I believe a Suzuki Vitara parked together in untouched condition on restricted plates, so I wonder for those cars too. They might, given their 20 years of usage and counting, and I hope they will be, because they could just become the last remnants of of their era in the future.

trying to remember. is there a specified life span for these RU plate cars?
ReplyDeleteFrankly not sure as I'm not versed with Restricted Use cars. Apart from being unable to drive outside of their designated locations without bearing a trade plate, there aren't specific mentions on whether the cars are still subject to renewals
